WUT and University of Strathclyde held a video conference to prepare for high-level strategic cooperation

On August 25th, Wang Fazhou, the vice president of WUT, had a video conference at the invitation of Prof. Alex Galloway, the deputy associate principal of University of Strathclyde, to discuss the preparation of high-level strategic cooperation conference between two universities. Representatives of University of Strathclyde attended the meeting, including Prof. Alex Galloway, the vice president; Prof. K.L.Lo, the associate dean international of the School of Engineering; and Mr. Stuart Shorthouse, the head of international development and recruitment of the School of Engineering.

Two sides had in-depth discussions on application of cooperative education program, opening international classes, 1+1+1 postgraduate program, exchange program and summer camp program at the meeting, and reached a preliminary consensus for cooperation.

The video conference laid a solid foundation for the incoming high-level conference of September 16thfor strategic cooperation and the agreement signing between two universities.

It was reported that WUT and the University of Strathclydesigned students exchange agreement in 2009, covering 2+2/4+1/1+1+1 PhD programs in science and engineering and 2+2/3+1+1/4+1programs in business and management. In 2020, the two universities jointly opened a international class in the WUT School of Automation (new energy and ICVs), with 33 students enrolled that year. The University of Strathclydehas always been actively promoting international cooperation with China. On Jan 2020, Prof. Sir Jim McDonald, the Principal of the University and the President of Royal Academy of Engineering, was invited to attend the foreign experts symposium chaired by Premier Li Keqiang. This May, he sent a letter to Zhang Qingjie, the president of WUT, and expressed his wishes to build a new round of strategic cooperative partnership with WUT.

The University of Strathclyderanked 23rdin TIMES Complete University Guide 2021; 15th in the Guardian University Guide; 32ndin THE Impact Rankings. According to TIMES, Strathclyde Engineering School takes the 4thplace for Mechanical Engineering in the UK; 5thfor Electrical and Electronic Engineering; 4thfor Chemical Engineering and 3rd for Architect. In the 2021 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects of Shanghai Ranking, Strathclyde ranked 4thfor Ocean Engineeringglobally, 1stin the UK; among 76-100 for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and 151-200 for Mechanical Engineering.
