From November 16th to 17th, the 5th International Conference for Innovation and Cooperation of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (ICNAME2021) & the 1st International High-level Forum on Smart and Autonomous Navigation Technology of Ships was held online and offline by Harbin Engineering University, Wuhan University of Technology and Moscow State Universityof Railway Transport. The conference aimed to strengthen the interconnection and resource sharing among colleges and universities in the field of intelligent ships, accelerate the technical exchange of intelligent ships at home and abroad, and promote the development of intelligent ships and autonomous navigation ships.

Heike Deggim, head of the Security Department of International Maritime Organization (IMO), attended the meeting and delivered a speech. In addition to the three host universities, there were also other experts and scholars from various universities and organizations to attend the meeting, including Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University of Lisbon, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, Aalto University, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Seoul National University, Sejong University, Nanyang Technological University, Tianjin University, Dalian Maritime University, Jimei University, Tianjin University of Technology, DNV-DET NORSKE VERITAS, Bureau Veritas, Class NK, China Classification Society, China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry and China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited. Those experts and scholars made academic reports and online discussionson the topic, and more than 3000 people participated the conference online.

Liu Zuyuan, vice president of WUT, Academician Yan Xinping (CAE), and more than 100 staff and student representatives attended the forum at the branch venue of WUT.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, vice president Liu Zuyuan made an introduction of WUT. Yan Xinping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief professor of WUT, made a report entitled Developments of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships in China. He presented the research achievements made by domestic academic and research institutions in recent years from three aspects: standard system and specification of intelligent ship technology, key technologies ofi ntelligent ships and testing technologies of intelligent ships, and put forward suggestions on international cooperation of green intelligent ships in five aspects:ship design, intelligent navigation, intelligent operation and maintenance, safety specifications, and test verification.
