At 8:30 a.m. on November 11th, the 19th WUT Sports Meeting was inaugurated at the South Lake Stadium.

The university leaders Xin Sijin, Yang Zongkai, Wang Qiankun, Xia Jiangjing, Liu Zuyuan, Chen Wen, Zhao Jing, Wang Fazhou, Liu Chunjiang, Wang Shijie, the principal assistant Shen Gewu, heads of relevant departments, and thousands of faculty, students and representatives of alumni attended the ceremony. President Yang Zongkai delivered an opening speech and Vice President Wang Fazhou presided over the ceremony.

Accompanied by the sonorous and rhythmic melody of Athletes March, the national flag guard of WUT, the university flag guard, the university emblem guard, the university motto guard, the cheering squad with flowers and the ceremonial team with red flags paraded past the podium orderly, along with competing teams from the university-affiliated units. With red flags and colorful bouquets in hand, they boasted vigorous gesture in their strides and chants. And each team combined its own working characteristics with the WUT spirit of “Sound in Morality, Broad in Learning and Pursuing Excellence”, displayed the WUT profile with colored flags and changeable signboards, and presented their vibrant looks and strong voices as a tribute to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

After all the 48 teams formed up into lines, the national flag-raising ceremony was held, in which attendees were solemnly standing and sang in unison the national anthem, March of the Volunteers. Meanwhile, the bright Five-starred Red Flag rose up slowly and fluttered in the wind when the national anthem was played.

Yang Zongkai, on behalf of WUT, expressed warm congratulations on the opening of the 19th WUT Sports Meeting, and extended heartfelt thanks and high respect to referees, coaches, athletes, and all volunteers who participated in this sports meeting. Then he pointed out that as the university had always attached great importance to its sports work and insisted on the concept of “Educating Five Domains Simultaneously” (specifically the well-rounded development of students in terms of moral grounding, intellectual and physical ability, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills), WUT vigorously organized mass sports activities in campuses, thus having fostered a good campus sports culture and fitness atmosphere. And WUT would take this sports event as an opportunity to continue to carry out the “Sunny Sports” program and create a better environment for the participation of the faculty and students in sports. Also, he hoped that WUTers could concentrate more on physical exercise and get actively involved, so as to celebrate the 20th National Congress of the CPC with their practical actions in the all-round development!

The student-athlete representative, the faculty-athlete and the referee took their oaths in turn. Subsequently, Vice President Wang Fazhou announced the official commencement of the 19th WUT Sports Meeting. Since the referees and athletes were in place, the competition events officially kicked off.

The Sports Meeting, lasting from November 10th to 12th, consisted of two types of competitions: the student group and the faculty group. It was hoped that WUT teachers and students could enjoy the fun, strengthen their physique, and achieve new records in the sports field!
