National Chemical Instruction Base for Foundation Course of Engineering
National Chemical Instruction Base for Foundation Course of Engineering of WUT was approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in October 2007. The base is situated in WUT New South Lake campus with a total area of 7,845 square meters. The total assets for instruments and equipments reach about RMB 7.9 million Yuan. Every year, it provides course support and 280,000 hours' experimental training to students majoring in 22 specialties from 8 schools. The base now has 48 faculty members, among whom there are 17 professors, 21 associate professors and 6 lecturers. Over the years great success has been achieved in computer-assisted chemical instruction. The base aims to promote the production and development of teaching software for chemical experiment.
In the past decade, the base has received 1 2nd Prize of National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 National Award Nomination for E-Journal, 7 Teaching Achievement Awards, 1 Prominent Teacher Award in Hubei province and 1 Wufu-Zhenhua Communications Education Prominent Teacher Award of Ministry of Communications. In addition, the base has published 16 text books and monographs, 6 coursewares. Owing to these remarkable achievements in chemical instruction, the base now holds 5 Excellent courses and 1 provincial Demonstration Center for chemical experimental education. The base has undertaken 9 National Natural Science Foundation of China and received lots of funding supports from industries. The total research fund is more than RMB 13.5 million. Researchers have published more than 470 scientific papers and gained 27 patents.
