WUT Confucius Institute at Lorraine University was Awarded‘ Confucius Institute of the Year’

On December 9, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters, the 2019 International Chinese Language Education Conference(ICLEC) was held in Changsha. Sun Chunlan, Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony and gave a keynote speech. Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education delivered a speech in the ceremony as well. Wang Fazhou, vice president of WUT, attended the meeting. During the conference, the Confucius Institute at University of Lorraine was awarded‘ Confucius Institute of the Year’.

ICLEC is the successor of Global Confucius Institutes Conference. The theme of the 2019 conference is “Innovation and Development of International Chinese Language Education in the New Era”. Over 1,000 representatives from more than 160 countries had heated discussions on deepening reform of systems, enriching education resources, improving quality of school-running and promoting diversified development. Now, more than 70 countries around the world have incorporated Chinese into the their national education system, and over 25 million people have learned Chinese worldwide. There are 550 Confucius Institutes and more than 1,170 Confucius Classrooms in 162 countries and regions around the world.

WUT has provided continuous supports to the Confucius Institute at Lorraine University since its opening in November 2011. Every year, WUT sends a delegation of teachers and students to Lorraine University for academic exchanges, cultural displays, martial arts, and art performances. The Institute, now, has become an  important platform for WUT to spread Chinese culture and a name card for cultural exchanges between China and France in the Metz region of France.
