Academician Yan Xinping and Professor Yu Jiaguo of WUT were Awarded the National Award for Excellence in Innovation


The National Award for Excellence in Innovation held its second award ceremony in Beijing on May 30, the fourth National Science and Technology Workers Day of China. Wan Gang, vice chairperson of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of the CAST attended the ceremony. People who attended the event included Zhang Yiquan, deputy minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, and Hou Jianguo, deputy secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Huai Jinpeng, executive vice president and chief executive secretary of the CAST, chaired the event.


At the ceremony, the medals of excellence in innovation were awarded to 10 teams and others totally 258 sci-tech workers received certificates of merit of excellence in innovation. Academician Yan Xinping and Professor Yu Jiaguo of WUT were awarded for their outstanding contributions in major equipment engineering research and basic research. Due to the epidemic, this off-line conference was mainly attended by winners in the Beijing area while those outside the Beijing mainly participated in through live video. On May 30, Academician Yan Xinping and Professor Yu Jiaguo joined the online award ceremony and accepted the commendation.


It is reported that The National Award for Excellence in Innovation was jointly established by CAST, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Science and Technology as well as SASAC in 2017, and is held every 3 years. This year, special topics for ‘epidemic prevention and control’ and ‘poverty alleviation’ are set up to commend Sci-Tec workers who have made important contributions in this regard.
