5 Students Awarded Stars of Self-improvement of College Students in Hubei Province 2019


Held by the Hubei Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the Hubei Provincial Student Federation, the result of Stars of Self-improvement of College Students in Hubei Province 2019 was announced.


5 students from WUT were awarded Stars of Self-improvement of College Students in Hubei Province 2019, including Mehmet Alijan Abdugheni, from School of Civil Engineering and Architecture; Zhou Yuan, from School of Economics; Fan Shiqi, from School of Energy and Power Engineering; Lian Sitian, from School of Materials Science and Engineering; Zhang Yue, from School of Law, Humanities and Sociology. Among them, Mehmet Alijan Abdugheni, Zhou Yuan and Fan Shiqi will be recommended to the Chinese Communist Youth League to participate in the national competition of Stars of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students.


Mehmet Alijan Abdugheni, as a 2018 undergraduate from the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, during the lockdown period of Wuhan, he has participated in the front line volunteer work, including supplies-transporting, soliciting donation and providing logistical support for provincial medical teams. He also signed up as a volunteer to get the recombinant COVID-19 vaccine (adenovirus vector), became one of the first batch of vaccine volunteers that entering the phase II clinical trial in the world. Besides, He has awarded two honorary title, the "Excellent Athlete" in Hubei Division of the China University Football Association 2019-2020 and the “The Daily Star" volunteer of the 7th World Military Games in Judo competition.


Zhou Yuan, as a 2017 undergraduate from the School of Economics, because of her outstanding volunteer work during the fighting against COVID-19 period, she was recommended by the All-China Youth Federation and the Chinese Young Volunteers Association, participated in the meeting "Adolescent and Youth Engagement in the Times of COVID-19 ",as the only volunteer representative in China. She demonstrated the demeanor of Chinese youth and Chinese youth volunteers in the new era for young people all around world. Meanwhile, She served as the vice president of the Youth Volunteer Association of WUT and completed more than 150 hours volunteer work. She has also appraised by WUT as "Merit Student" and received "The Third-class Scholarship".


Fan Shiqi, as a 2016 PhD student from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, she has published 8 SCI/EI papers as the first author, including 2 SCI papers (IF 3.068) in Ocean Engineering, the top international journal in the maritime field, and 1 SCI paper (IF 5.040) in the Reliability Engineering & System Safety, the top international journal in the safety field. During the epidemic period, she actively participated in the epidemic prevention and control work as a member of the Dabai Volunteer Service Team of the Communist Youth League Committee, and received the “outstanding volunteer” title of Yongqing Street Jiang'an District Committee of the Communist Party of China. She has also awarded the "National Scholarship", "Excellence Scholarship", "Merit Student Models" Honors, "Merit Graduate Students" and "Outstanding Member of Communist Party" by WUT.


Lian Sitian, a 2016 undergraduate from the School of Materials Science and Engineering. She won the special prize in the 16th "Challenge Cup" National Undergraduate Curricular Academic Science and Technology Competition (ranking in the first).She has published 1 SCI paper as the first author and participated in the publication of 2 SCI papers. Also, she was authorized1 national invention patent. Her paper was selected into the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum of the Ministry of Education. Besides, she has won the honorary titles:"Good and Upward Youth in Hubei Province” and "Outstanding Graduate in Wuhan University of Technology ".


Zhang Yue, a 2018 undergraduate of the School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences. He has produced a series of short videos, including "Volunteering for Military World Games”,"Stay Strong Wuhan", "Volunteers, Thank You", "See you at school, when the epidemic ends up, ". Among them, "Volunteering for Military World Games" is broadcasting on all lines of Wuhan Metro, and was recommended at the Learning Power; "Stay Strong, Wuhan" reached the list of top trending searches,ranked the seventh at Bilibili within 24 hours, and 6th at the list of music. It surpassed 4 million hits at network platforms in total. “Volunteers, thank you" and "See you at our school when the epidemic ends up" was recommended by the client application of People's Daily, the Youth League Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the All-China Students' Federation, Chinese Youth Volunteers, Youth Hubei and other platforms. The total number of clicks at network platforms reached nearly 3.6 million.


It is reported that 2019 Stars of Self-improvement of College Students in Hubei Province selection activity aims to set up a group of amiable, respectable, credible and studious youth models among college students in Hubei province, in order to cultivate and practice the core values of socialism in 2019, 150 Stars of Self-improvement of College Students in Hubei Province were selected, and 86 of them would be selected and recommended to the Central Committee of the League to participate in the competition of Stars of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students.
