The 4th International Conference on Maritime Safety and Smart Shipping(MSSS 2020) was Hosted by WUT

From October 5thto 6th, the 4th International Conference on Maritime Safety and Smart Shipping(MSSS 2020) was held on the Yujiatou campus. This conference was hosted by Wuhan University of Technology(WUT), National Engineering Research Center for Water Transport Safety(WTS Center), International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of Intelligent Shipping and Maritime Safety, and jointly organized by China Transportation Association Youth Scientists Working Committee, Intelligent Transportation System Research Center and Institute of Reliability and New Energy.

The conference was held offline and broadcast online, more than 1,200 experts, scholars and representatives attended the meeting. They come from Aalto University , Chalmers University of Technology , Delft University of Technology, Maritime University of Gdynia, John Moore in Liverpool, UK. University, Memorial University, Dalhousie University, National Technical University of Athens, St. Petersburg National Marine Technical University, University of Lisbon, Classification Society of China, China Design Group Co., Ltd., Dalian University of Technology, Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Wuhan University of Technology.

The opening ceremony of it was hosted by Professor Zhang Di, deputy director of the WTS Center. Wu Chaozhong, vice president of WUT and Zhang Chunzhi, vice president of the China Transport Association, delivered speeches to congratulate the successful openness of the conference. Yan Xinping, chairman of the conference, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor in WUT, delivered a welcome speech. He proposed that the deep integration of smart technology and shipping business should be accelerated in the post-epidemic era, and the development of a series of smart technologies, such as remote driving technology, autonomous ship navigation technology and non-contact safety inspection, should be promoted to create a green, smart, and flexible shipping system.

16 famous experts at home and abroad were invited at this conference to give special lecture reports. They were Carlos Guedes Soares, academician of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and professor of the University of Lisbon, Rudy Negenborn, professor of Delft University of Technology, Jakub Montewka, professor of the Maritime University of Gdynia, Spyros Hirdaris, associate professor of Aalto University in Finland, and Chen Jihong, professor of Shanghai Maritime University, etc.

The in-depth exploration was conducted at the conference about intelligent shipping and maritime safety in the post epidemic era, which played a positive role in promoting the future development of intelligent shipping and maritime safety.

MSSS 2020 was initiated by the WUT and WTS Center. It has been successfully held for four sessions since 2016. It aims to gather well-known experts and scholars from the industrial and academic circles at home and abroad, to discuss the frontier trends of intelligent shipping and maritime safety, seek international cooperation opportunities in this field, and jointly promote the technological development and academic exchange communications in the field of intelligent shipping and maritime safety.
