Biography:
Nikola Vladimir is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (UNIZAG FSB), University of Zagreb, where he also serves as Head of the Marine Engineering Department. He holds visiting research positions at the Lisbon Technical University (Portugal), Paris Bureau Veritas Research Department (France), and Pusan National University (South Korea). His research spans energy efficiency and sustainability of ships and floating structures, marine power systems, design and operation of specialized vessels (e.g., fishing boats, ro-pax ferries, inland waterway ships), aquaculture, life cycle assessment (LCA), fluid-structure interaction, and static/dynamic analysis of marine structures.
Abstract:
This lecture provides a comprehensive analysis of green shipping policies and technological advancements in Europe and Croatia. At the European level, it examines policies under the EU’s “Fit for 55” framework to reduce maritime carbon emissions, including carbon tariffs and their impact on Asia-Europe routes. For Croatia, the discussion focuses on regional initiatives such as vessel emission controls and green port strategies. The presentation also explores cutting-edge developments in new-energy vessels, including pure electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, and evaluates future trends in smart shipping and sustainable energy applications. Finally, it offers insights into Europe’s evolving technical roadmap for green shipping, emphasizing innovation in energy systems and digitalization.
