Biography: Prof. Johann Plank, is a Member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering and a TUM Emeritus of Excellence. He served as a Full Professor of Construction Chemistry and Director of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at TUM from 2001 to 2020. Before entering academia, he spent 20 years in the industry (SKW Trostberg AG, now part of BASF/MBT), where he was R&D Director of Construction and Oilfield Chemicals, gaining extensive experience in industrial applications. Prof. Plank is a globally recognized authority in construction chemistry. His research focuses on inorganic and organic binders, chemical admixtures for construction (especially polycarboxylate superplasticizers, PCE), colloid chemistry, interfacial phenomena, and low-carbon "green" building materials (such as carbon-reduced cements and CCUS technologies). His team is world-renowned for cutting-edge work on PCEs and oil well cement additives. To date, he has published over 500 scientific papers, holds numerous international patents, and serves as a Co-Editor of the top journal Cement and Concrete Research. He maintains strong ties with the Chinese academic community and is an honorary or visiting professor at several leading Chinese institutions, including Wuhan University of Technology.
