On November 22, the results of co-opted academician was published by Chinese Academy of Engineering. Professor Yan Xinping of Department of machinery and transportation of WUT was elected academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Yan Xinping, born in July 1959, in Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province, is a member of the Communist Party of China. In 1982, he graduated from Wuhan institute of water transportation engineering with a bachelor's degree majoring in marine machinery repair and manufacture; in 1987, a master's degree in marine machinery repair and manufacture; in 1997, he graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University with a doctor’s degree in mechanics. Now, he is the doctoral supervisor of Intelligent Transportation System Research Center and School of Energy and Power Engineering; he is the disciplines leader of transportation engineering and naval architecture and ocean engineering; the director of National Engineering Research Center for Water Transport Safety, International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Intelligent navigation and Maritime Safety and Collaborative innovation platform for Inland Intelligent Shipping and Transportation Industry; he is also the expert of working group on intelligent inland navigation of International Shipping Association (PIANC), deputy director of Department of Energy and Transportation, Science and Technology Commission, Ministry of Education and a member of evaluation group of transportation engineering discipline of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, etc.
Professor Yan is a well-known expert at home and abroad in the field of waterway traffic engineering. He has presided over more than 20 scientific research projects such as researching projects of national “973” and “863”, the Key Project of Natural Science Fund, State Supporting plan, Key R&D projects and High-tech Ship Scientific Research Program and so on. He has presided over the development of on-line monitoring and remote diagnosis system of ship power equipment wear, navigation system of inland high-level navigation channel, ship intelligent safety assisted driving system, realized engineering application, and made outstanding contributions to the development of China's waterway safety technology system.
Professor Yan established a method for tribo-system condition identification, innovated the "Four-Method" monitoring technology using tribology, dynamics, performance parameters and shaft power, and invented on-line monitoring and remote diagnosis system of ship power equipment wear. It is has been promoted and applied in operation and maintenance of the equipment for ships in service for dredging, salvage, shipping and defense, promoting shipping enterprises of our country transformed their models from experience management and periodic maintenance to real time detection and condition based maintenance.
Professor Yan put forward the construction method of inland navigation operation system, hosted the research and development of national high-range inland waterways of "One picture, two networks, four platforms" navigation operation system based on“electronic waterway maps as carriers, supported by underway ships, waterway element perception networks, and online service, multi-level ship lock dispatching, ship location services, and sea time supervision”. It has been promoted in construction of navigation operation system of “two sections and one profile” waterways, realizing the transformation of inland navigation status from static acquisition to dynamic perception, effectively improving the safety technology level of our domestic river navigation system.
Professor Yan constructed the “navigation brain system”, defined the composition space of perception, cognition and decision control, overcame the key technologies of integration and reconstruction of complex inland navigation environment and ships’ condition, constructed the intelligent safety assisted driving control model for underactuated ships and researched intelligent ship safety assistance driving system, providing a novel technical approach for the application of artificial intelligence in the field of marine engineering.
Professor Yan won second prize of national science, technology and invention as the first-rank accomplisher (2012), second prize of State Scientific and Technological Progress Prize(2016) and 5 provincial-level first prize; he authorized 32 invention patents; published 5 monographs and 139 SCI papers.
Professor Yan, as the scientific and technical innovation team of Ministry of Transport, the head of marine engineering teaching team of Ministry of Education, was awarded the excellent teacher of “ Thousands of Excellent Teachers Program”(2002), and won the second prize of National Teaching Achievement Prize as the first-rank accomplisher(2009).
