On November 12, the opening ceremony of the WUT-Harvard Nano Joint Key Laboratory was held in the Building 33 of the West Campus of WUT. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Zhang Lianmeng, Vice President of WUT. Professor Charles M. Lieber, member of the US Academy of Sciences, Professor Zhao Dongyuan, a professor from Fudan University and attended by member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Ma linying, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Leifengyun, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Professor Zhang Qingjie, President of WUT and other relevant department heads.
At the ceremony, President Zhang Qingjie gave a warm welcome to all the guests. He said, “The WUT-Harvard Nano Joint Key Laboratory was founded in 2009. Since its foundation, WUT has gained huge achievements, especially in the fields of academic and scientific research. Under the leadership of Professor Charles M. Lieber, the lab published a series of high-level research papers. With the lab’s focus on university-industry collaboration, WUT has established collaborations with many local industries and attached great importance to transferring research achievements to practical products. WUT has achieved a series of breakthroughs and innovation in new energy vehicles. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the WUT-Harvard Nano Joint Key Laboratory will become a research base with international influence and a cooperation platform for high-level academic exchange. The lab will also make its contribution to the research and development of nano science and cultivate high-level talents in fields of nano science, new energy materials and nano biomedical science.”
Mr. Ma linying, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Mr. Lei Fengyun, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, fully confirmed the lab’s achievements in international cooperation and university-industry collaboration. They also expressed their support for its future construction and development.
Later, Mr. Ma, Mr. Lei, Professor Charles M. Lieber and Professor Liu Wei unveiled the WUT-Harvard Nano Joint Key Laboratory together.
In his address at the ceremony, Professor Charles M. Lieber said, “In 2009, I cooperated with WUT and set up the WUT-Harvard Nano Joint Key Laboratory. During its construction, we received great support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and other provincial offices. We are very thankful for all the support. Our aim is to build the lab into a world advanced research platform for advanced sciences. We will work together and build a world class research team. We will also recruit and cultivate high-level talents and make a contribution to the development of science.”
After the ceremony, accompanied by Professor Mai Liqiang, the Executive Director of the Joint Nano Key Lab, Professor Charles M. Lieber visited the joint lab and held talks with students.
