ScienceWatch (http://sciencewatch.com), a subordinate website of Thomason Reuters of Global Information Service made an announcement of Who and What Was Hot in Scientific Research in 2012. According to the citations in 2012 for paper published during 2010-2012, they selected the top 0.1% papers as hot papers, besides, researcher who owns 11 or more hot papers would be selected as the Hottest Researcher of the Year. There are, in the world, a total of 21 researchers, among which WUT Professor Yu Jiaguo with 12 hot papers, won the honorary title.
In the announcement, 6 out of 21 hottest researchers are Chinese. Besides Professor Yu Jiaguo, the other 5 Chinese researchers are Wang Jun from Beijing Genomics Institute, Cheng Huiming from Institute of Metal Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Yongfang from Institute of Chemistry of Chinese of Academy of Sciences, Ding Li from University of Washington and Wang Zidong from Brunel University of UK.
The research fields of all 21 hottest researchers include genomics, biostatistics, materials science, chemistry, cardiology, computer science and data analysis, bioinformatics, etc. In materials science, there are 5 researchers, namely, WUT Professor Yu Jiaguo with 12 hot papers on grapheme and Titanium chloride nanotubes, CAS researcher Li Yongfang with 14 hot papers on polymer solar cells, Frederik CKrebs from Technical University of Denmark with 11hot papers on polymer solar cells, Rodney S. Ruoff from University of Texas-Austin with 12 hot papers on grapheme and CAS researcher Cheng Huiming with 11 hot papers on grapheme hybrid materials.
Yu Jiaguo, a professor from the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology of Materials Synthesis and Processing of WUT, as well as a Ph.D. supervisor and recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, focuses his researches on nana-compounding technology. During the recent decade, he and his research team published over 280 SCI papers in the field of photocatalytic science and among those papers, 60 were selected as ESI high-frequency cited papers, 2 were selected as Top 100 International Influential Academic Paper in China in 2011. Thus, Professor Yu Jiaguo is regarded as one the most productive and prominent paper writers in the field of photocatalytic science for the past decade worldwide.
