On the morning of October 22nd, the Opening Ceremony of the 18th WUT Sports Meeting was held in Nanhu Stadium. At the time when Wuhan was stepping into the late autumn, students of WUT vigorously held waving flags high under the rising warm sunshine at Nanhu Stadium.

All members of WUT council, heads of the functional departments and thousands of teachers and students have participated in the opening ceremony of the sport meeting. Zhang Qingjie, the WUT president, made an opening speech.Vice President Wang Fazhou presided over the opening ceremony.
Accompanied by the sonorous The March of the Athletes, National Flag Guards, School Flag Guards, School Emblem Group, Quotation Board Team, Flower Formation, Red Flag Formation. They steped forward firmly and steadily with powerful slogans. Characterized by their unique dressing, they showed the glamour and charm of WUT with their creative group performances. Present spectators gave thunderous applause to the brilliant performances.
After 44 groups entered into the arena,the national flag was raised slowly and the the national anthem was played. All participators stood up and song solemnly with the anthem.
President Zhang Qingjie extended warm congratulations to the convening of the 18th WUT sports meeting and expressed heartfelt thanks and high regards to the referees, coaches, athletes and all staff who engaged in the sports meeting. He pointed out that in recent years, WUT had attached great importance to physical education and thoroughly implemented the spirit of the National Education Conference and the important discourse of General Secretary Xi Jinping, to strengthen young generation’s physical education. A host of meaningful and colorful sports events were held, which formed a sound campus sports culture. He added that meanwhile, the university’s high-level sports teams had gained excellent performance in the national and Hubei university sports competitions. These fruitful results in scholastic sports competitions witnessed the physical education progress of WUT. Mr. Zhang stressed that the sports meeting was not only a review of WUT’s competitive sports level, but also a comprehensive review of teachers and students’ mental outlook and comprehensive quality. WUT would take this sports meeting as an opportunity, focusing on the fundamental task of moral education, continue to carry out “Sunshine Sports” and create a better environment for teachers and students to take part in sports events. Mr. Zhang hoped that all the athletes should adhere to the principle that competing comed after friendship, and that all athletes could achieve their full potential and exert their talents in the games. He also hoped that all referees could strictly observe rules and make fair decisions; that all staff could provide warm service and ensure safety for the games; and that all spectators could watch games in an enthusiastic and civilized manner.
The athlete representative and the referee representative were making solemn vows.
Xu Jialu, the student athlete representative, Peng Kai, the staff athlete representative and Yu Guo, the referee representative took the oath in turn.
The 18th WUT sports meeting encompasses Student Group and Faculty Group, and competitions will be organized in both Nanhu Campus and Yujiatou Campus for three days. We look forward to the excellent performance of athletes who can carry on WUTer’s energetically fighting spirit. We hope that it is a good opportunity for students to invigorate health effectively and learn to be strong-minded people.
