From April 9th to 10th, the Sixth International Forum for Youth Scholars of WUT was held online. Participants from WUT and more than 300 young scholars from 15 countries and regions such as the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region gathered to discuss the future and seek common development via Internet.

Main forum

On April 9th, the Sixth International Forum for Youth Scholars opened. The main forum was divided into Asia Pacific Region & North America special sessions and Europe special sessions. Jiang Tiebing (deputy minister of Organization Department of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and director of the Municipal Bureau of Talent Work) was invited to attend this forum. Participants of WUT are Yang Zongkai (President of WUT), Chen Wen (Vice President of WUT), Shen Qiang (executive deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology For Materials Synthesis and Processing), Yang Minghong (Recipient of the National Nature Science Foundation of China Distinguished Young Scholars Program and a scholar from the National Engineering Laboratory For Fiber Optic Sensing Technology) , Chen Wei (executive deputy director of State Key Laboratory of Silicate Materials for Architectures), Wen Yuanqiao (deputy director of National Engineering Research Center for Water Transport Safety), Han Xinghui (deputy director of Key Laboratory for Modern Automobile Parts Technology of Hubei Province) , and Huang Wenchao, Chengqing Yuan and Guodong Li, representatives of young teachers and national high-level talents of WUT. The forum was presided over by Zhao Jing, deputy secretary of WUT Party committee.

President Yang Zongkai delivered a welcome speech in which he showed young scholars the broad development prospects and opportunities of WUT through introducing the general trend of China’s higher education, strengths, location advantages and achievements of WUT. President Yang sent his sincere invitation to young scholars all over the world, "We sincerely hope that through this forum, young scholars can understand WUT, join hands with it and take root in it to achieve career dreams with us and create a beautiful future together."

Jiang Tiebing, deputy minister of Organization Department of Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and director of the Municipal Bureau of Talent Work, introduced Wuhan's regional advantages, innovation and entrepreneurship resources, development opportunities and platforms, as well as a series of policy guarantees to support talent development in detail, and sincerely invited young scholars to work and live in Wuhan.

Through introducing Wuhan’s city charms and the advantages and talent strategies of WUT, Chen Wen, Vice President of WUT, provided details of the university policies and achievements in talents introduction and cultivation, especially achievements the university had made for introducing young excellent overseas talents. He sincerely invited more young scholars to join WUT where they could "fulfill potentials and achieve success for mutual development and a bright future of WUT and themselves."

The promotional video of WUT was broadcast at this forum. It comprehensively presented the distinctive university-running characteristics based on three major industrial sectors, namely building materials, transportation and automobile, reviewed WUT’s outstanding achievements and major progress in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services and campus construction since 2000, and illustrated the university-running ideology and the lofty ideal of WUT.

Presentations about major scientific research platforms of WUT were made respectively by five representatives from the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing, National Engineering Laboratory for Fiber Optic Sensing Technology, State Key Laboratory of Silicate Materials for Architectures, National Engineering Research Center for Water Transport Safety and Key Laboratory for Modern Automobile Parts Technology of Hubei Province. They also introduced the relevant supportive policies for talents in accordance with the reality of  each research center. To be specific, Huang Wenchao, Yuan Chengqing and Li Guodong shared their experience in the application of talents programs and the establishment of research teams in WUT with other young scholars. In this session, Personnel Office of WUT Personnel Department carried on the online Q&A.

On April 10th, there were 18 sub-forums held both online and offline, mainly through Tencent Meeting, by different schools of WUT. In these sessions, attendees conducted in-depth discussions over research focuses of various disciplines with teachers and students of WUT. This was a great chance for them to deepen mutual understanding and trust.
