On November 28th, Vice President Wu Chaozhong was invited to attend the Sino-Japanese University Forum on Scientific and Technological Innovation on behalf of WUT. He presided over a sub-forum titled “How to Leverage Strengths in Scientific Research and Talents of Universities for Social Development and Progress”, and delivered a keynote speech.

During the sub-forum, Wu Chaozhong made a keynote address entitled “Sci-tech Innovation and Educational Practice of WUT”, in which he gave a detailed introduction about the university’s results in scientific research and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, as well as the relevant work in promoting sci-tech innovation and talent cultivation. Also, he said that WUT has always maintained extensive and close cooperation with Japanese counterparts and scientific research institutions, specifically scientific research collaboration and teacher-student exchange visits with Japanese universities (such as Tohoku University and Tokyo Institute of Technology) in materials, machinery, and other fields. In the recent five years, about 90 Japanese experts from Tohoku University, University of Tokyo, Hokkaido University and Tokyo Institute of Technology, conducted exchanges, lectures, and cooperative scientific research both online and offline with WUT. Therefore, WUT would continue to promote interdisciplinary integration and scientific research cooperation across fields and borders, thus making new contributions to bringing the China-Japan educational cooperation to a new level.

On November 29th, Wu Chaoqun (Dean of School of Mechatronic Engineering of WUT) attended the "Research Exchange Session" of the forum. With the research focus on the low-carbon field, he presented an academic report  entitled “Technology of Ultrasound Enhanced Direct Methanol Fuel Cell” and carried out the research-related exchanges with representatives from universities and institutes taking part.

This forum was co-sponsored by China Association for International Exchange of Personnel (CAIEP) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and jointly hosted by Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province and Hubei Provincial Foreign Exchange Center for Science and Technology. Moreover, it aims at enhancing in-depth communications and common discussions about practical measures between Chinese and Japanese universities on the topics such as university construction, talent cultivation, and international cooperation in the post-pandemic era. Meanwhile, the event was held both online and offline, of which the Chinese branch venue was set up in Wuhan. And representatives of 20 Chinese and Japanese universities, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, Hokkaido University and Tokyo City University, attended the forum upon invitation.

The China-Japan University Forum on Science and Technology Innovation, of which the Japanese indication is the “China-Japan University Convention & Principal Forum, serves as an international talent exchange activity at the rectorial level and inter-university exchange activity between China and Japan in the largest scale. Since its foundation in 2017, the forum has been held in domestic cities orderly like Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Chengdu. On average, nearly 80 Chinese and Japanese universities, along with almost 200 scientific research institutions and sci-tech enterprises, participated in each forum. Collectively, more than a thousand people would attend a forum. Hence, these forums contribute a lot to mutual benefits and win-win cooperation between China and Japan in a wider range and at a higher level.
