Belt and Road International Forum on Safety & Protection of Civil Infrastructures 2022 was held from November 26th to 27th. The theme of the conference was on service safety and intelligent management in high-quality infrastructures. Experts and scholars on BRI Civil Engineering were invited to share their innovative ideas and achievements and got inspired on the new theories, technologies and measures to promote high-quality development of BRI Civil Infrastructures. The meeting was held online and simulcasted on the internet.     

The conference was hosted by Wuhan University of Technology, Hubei key Laboratory of Roadway Bridge and Structure Engineering, Hubei Green and Intelligent Building Engineering Technology Research Centre, and Wuhan Geotechnical Society. The co-organizers were Journal of Wuhan University of Technology, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan University, China Three Gorges University, CITIC Engineering Design and Construction Co., LTD, Central Southern China Electric Power Design Institute Co., LTD of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company LTD, Key Laboratory of Building Structure Reinforcement and Underground Space Engineering, Ministry of Education, Shandong Jianzhu University.

More than 200 enterprises delegates and experts attended the opening ceremony  online, including Wang Qiankun, Vice Chairman of WUT University Council, Wang Ren, researcher of Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, CAS, Wang Dong and Liu Tao, professors from Ocean University of China, Zhu Honghao, professor from Nanjing University, Liu Yong and Tang Xuhai, professors from Wuhan University, Li Changdong, professor from China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, Pei Huafu, professor from Dalian University of Technology, Ma Qiang, deputy dean of Hubei University of Technology, Sun Yifei, professor from Hohai University, Chen Wenbo and Tan Daoyuan, assistant professors from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and others. Wang Qiankun said in his address that the report of the 20th CPC National Congress put forward the requirement of “ promoting the high-quality development of the ‘Belt and Road’ ”, which was to adhere to dialogue and consultation, joint construction and sharing, exchanges and mutual learning, attract more countries and regions as well as  scientific and technological workers to participate in to form greater consensus and synergy in gathering strength, and mustering resources to benefit people in more and more countries. He also added that the meeting took the implementation of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress as an opportunity, well-known experts and scholars from countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” gathered together to aim at national demand and scientific frontiers to collide sparks, thus contributing to the development of transportation infrastructure of the “Belt and Road”. Mr.Wang also put forward/ proposed three guiding opinions for this meeting: laying a solid foundation  to deepen cooperation in technological innovation, building  platforms to consolidate high-quality development,  cultivating deep to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Wu Bin, Dean of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of WUT, introduced the history, teaching and scientific research platform, as well as the outstanding achievements in undergraduate majors construction, postgraduate education and scientific research in recent years.

53 experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Professor Liu Yong from Wuhan University, Professor Sun Yifei from Hohai University, Professor Manish Kumar Goyal from Indian Institute of Technology, Dr. Goh Kekboon from Monash University Malaysia, Dr. Tam Minh Phan form Kunsan National University conducted online academic reports on the topic of "Belt and Road" new theories and technologies of transportation infrastructure geotechnical engineering, new generation of traffic geotechnical engineering, the improvement of the quality and safety of transportation infrastructure, and the protection theory and safety monitoring of advanced civil engineering materials and structures.It covers geotechnical engineering experiments, theory, numerical simulation methods and construction techniques, as well as civil engineering materials design, simulation, structural safety monitoring and evaluation and so on.

26 domestic scientific research institutes and enterprise  attended this conference, including Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Southern University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shandong University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, and Shanghai Huace Navigation Technology Ltd. More than 300 teachers and students from nearly 20 countries or regions, including Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Congo, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, Nigeria and Uzbekistan, also served as the participants. The opening ceremony and the invited presentation conference were viewed 956,000 times on livestreaming media, with a total of 1,918,000 viewers.
