From August 12th to 13th, 2023 the 6th International Conferenceon Innovative Design and Manufacturing (ICIDM 2023) was successfully held, which was jointlyhosted by Wuhan University of Technology and Hubei Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Society and co-sponsored by Hubei Automotive Engineering Society and Hubei Machinery Industry Association.

Experts from Malaysia, Germany, Mexico, China and other countries were invited and delivered keynote speechesattheconference. Intotal, more than 200 experts and scholars from more than 30 universities and 20 related enterprises and public institutions from home and abroad attended. Themedby “Leading Innovation with FundamentalResearchFrontiers”, the conference washeld simultaneously with a Young Doctor’sForum to jointly discuss the latest scientific research achievements and trends of design and manufacturing in fields like intelligent manufacturing and robotics, measurement and control technology and instruments, industrial engineering and management.It served as a platform for international academic exchange and innovation, presenting a high-quality, international and forward-looking academic feast.

Professor Zhou Zude, Chief Professor of WUTand foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Professor Wu Chaozhong, Vice President ofWUT, Professor Wang Xinyun, Vice Chairman of Hubei Association for Science and Technology, Professor Zhao Daxing from Hubei University of Technology, President of Hubei Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Society, and Professor Hua Lin fromWUT attended the meeting. Vice President Wu Chaozhong of WUT, Professor Wang Xinyu and Professor Zhao Daxing delivered opening speeches respectively, expressing warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished guests and scholars from home and abroad at the conference. Academician Ivanov Leonid, first Vice President of the Russian Academy of Engineering, sent a congratulatory letter to extend warm congratulations on the opening of the conference.

Professor Dr. Safian Sharif fromTechnological University of Malaysia (FASC), Academician Shan Zhongde from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (online), Professor Peng Fangyu from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Liu Zhifeng from Jilin University delivered keynote speeches respectively. Academician Wen Yu from National Polytechnic Institute, Professor Jiang Chao from Hunan University, Dr. Gao Peng from Technical University of Berlin, and Professor Duc Truong Pham from University of Birmingham (online) made keynote reports on cutting-edge technology and talent cultivation ofmechatronic design and manufacturing.

On the 13th, the Young Doctor’s Forum was held in the conference center and the mechatronic building of WUT. A total of 32 young PhD students from 14 universities, including Technical University of Darmstadt, Technical University of Dortmund, National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, the University of Manchester, Chongqing University, Wuhan University of Technology, etc. exchangedideas on intelligent manufacturing and robotics, design theories and methods, manufacturing technology and process, digital twin, industrial big data, industrial Internet, Internet of things and other areas.

The success of this conference provided an opportunity for experts, scholars and engineers in the field of advanced manufacturing to share scientific achievements and cutting-edge technologies, and promoted the interdisciplinarity and development of related disciplines. Moreover, it added to a closer connection between WUT and experts and scholars at home and abroad, drove the construction and development of the mechanical engineering discipline of WUT, andenhanced the international academic influence of the university.
