The latest research result of a young faculty member of WUT on multiphase fluid mechanics published in Nature Communications
Update Time:2024-04-13 15:33:16

Recently, Dr. Jiang Maoqiang, a young faculty member of School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Energy Power Engineering, collaborated with Professor Zhu Lailai's research group from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). They had an important progress in the field of active particle multiphase fluid mechanics. They developed a high-performance parallel computing method for fully resolving multiphase flow involving active particle groups and, for the first time, demonstrated that medium activity can induce solid-liquid-gas phase transitions and active turbulence while elucidating the related mechanisms. The research results were published in Nature Communications, a Nature sub-journal, under the title "Shaping active matter from crystalline solids to active turbulence."

The first author of the paper is Dr. Yang Qianhong from NUS, with Dr. Jiang Maoqiang from WUT as the co-first author. The corresponding author is Professor Zhu Lailai from the NUS. Collaborators include Professor Picano Francesco from the University of Padova, Italy.

Dr. Jiang Maoqiang joined Professor Zhang Zunhua's research team at the Energy Engineering Institute of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Energy Power Engineering in 2023. His research primarily focuses on multiphase fluid mechanics and computational fluid mechanics with numerous studies conducted in numerical computational methods for multiphase reactive flow and high-performance computing, as well as the utilization of low-carbon and zero-carbon fuels. His research findings have been published in high-impact academic journals such as Nature Communications, Journal of Computational Physics, and Physics of Fluids. He has also applied for and obtained several patents and software copyrights.
