According to WUT’s 2024 overall arrangement of international exchanges, Xin Sijin, the Secretary of the CPC Wuhan University of Technology Committee, led a delegation to visit Singapore and Australia from June 2nd to 9th. The delegation successively visited National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTS), Temasek Polytechnic, Monash University and The University of New South Wales. In Singapore, Melbourne (Australia), and Sydney (Australia), special talent policy presentations and fairs were held. Besides, they visited Chinese Embassies and Consulates in Singapore and Sydney, and met with local visiting students, faculty and alumni. Through this visit, WUT conducted in-depth exchanges with relevant universities in Singapore and Australia on topics such as deepening cooperation in education, science and technology, strengthening joint talent cultivation and exchanges between faculty and students, which effectively expand the network of WUT’s high-quality international partners, and speed up efforts to recruit high-level talents overseas.

On the morning of June 3rd, the delegation visited NUS and held talks with Professor Cai Jiaxin, Associate Vice President of NUS, and heads of the Department of Engineering. After a brief introduction of WUT, Secretary Xin Sijin focused on the advantages and characteristics of WUT in talent cultivation, discipline construction, transformation of scientific research results and education internationalization. Vice President Cai Jiaxin extended a warm welcome to Xin’s delegation and highly affirmed the achievements of cooperation between the two sides in materials and maritime fields. During the exchange, the two sides reached important consensuses on strengthening cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, the delegation also held a discussion with the heads of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Institute for Health Innovation & Technology from the College of Design and Engineering of NUS.

On the afternoon of June 3rd, the delegation visited NTU, where Secretary Xin Sijin held talks with Li Peishi, Vice President of NTU, and heads of relevant departments. The two sides reviewed the achievements of cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research, and agreed to further deepen research cooperation and exchanges between faculty and students while promoting interns from NTU to settle in Hubei and WUT. The two sides stressed that they will jointly cultivate international top-notch innovative talents, promote the transformation of high-level achievements, and contribute wisdom and strength to the prosperity and development of education, science and technology for both countries. During the visit, the delegation also held a seminar in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Materials Science and Engineering. Besides, they were invited to visit the Center for Advanced Robotics Technology Innovation, and reached an agreement on the joint cultivation of undergraduates and graduates in maritime research, materials science and engineering and other majors.

On June 4th, the delegation visited Temasek Polytechnic and held talks with Vice President Hu Chuanqi, along with heads of the Research Department, Student Affairs Department, International Department, and Clean Energy Research Centre. The Minister-Counselor Han Jun from the Chinese Embassy in Singapore was also invited. Vice President Hu Chuanqi provided a detailed introduction to the recent overall development of the institute and its latest research achievements in fields such as fuel cells, energy storage technology, and medical diagnostics. Secretary Xin Sijin expressed that both parties could leverage their shared characteristics and strengths to further deepen dialogue and exchanges in areas such as student internships and cooperation between univerisities, governments, and enterprises. During the exchange, both sides agreed to enhance communication and research to ensure sound top-level design for practical cooperation between the two institutions.In the presence of Minister-Counselor Han Jun, Secretary Xin Sijin and Vice President Hu Chuanqi signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two institutions and unveiled plaques for the joint research center and the overseas student training base. Additionally, the delegation was invited to tour the Clean Energy Research Centre and the Robotics and Automation Research Centre.

On June 6th, the delegation visited Monash University in Australia and held talks with Executive Vice President Professor Ariel Clemens, Vice President Yang Shuang, and heads of the Faculty of Engineering and relevant departments. Secretary Xin Sijin noted that WUT and Monash University have established a long-term and in-depth cooperative relationship spanning over 20 years. He emphasized WUT's willingness to continue expanding the depth and breadth of cooperation with Monash University to jointly serve the overall framework of China-Australia educational cooperation. Ariel Clemens warmly welcomed the delegation and fully affirmed the achievements of the cooperation between the two universities, expressing a desire to further deepen dialogue and exchanges in various fields.During the talks, both parties discussed continuing to promote joint training programs and co-hosting the Tri-University Research Workshop on Advanced Engineering, and they signed a joint training cooperation agreement for undergraduates and postgraduates. They also agreed to further expand exchanges between faculty and students, continuously deepening personnel interactions between the two institutions.
On June 7th, the delegation visited the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and held talks. Secretary Xin Sijin expressed gratitude for UNSW's warm reception and, upon invitation, introduced the recent overall development of WUT. During the tallks, the delegation proposed specific suggestions for strengthening cooperation between WUT and UNSW in areas such as joint postgraduate training, faculty exchanges, and scientific research. The two sides also discussed topics such as the internationalization of summer school courses and short-term study programs for Australian students in China. Additionally, the delegation was invited to tour the Solar Industrial Research Facility at UNSW.

During the visit, three sessions of WUT Brief of Policies on Overseas High-end Talents were held by the delegation. Secretary Xin Sijin introduced the specific recruitment program of overseas talents of WUT. He extended sincere greetings to all the students attending the meeting and welcomed them to work in WUT. Students were encouraged to get lifelong ideals and contribute to the construction and development of China as overseas returnees as early as possible. Out of more than 200 doctors and post-doctors present, some have expressed their willingness to work in WUT.

The delegation also visited Embassy of the PRC in the ROS and Consulate General of the PRC in Sydney. Secretary Xin Sijin held talks with Han Jun, the Minister-Counselor of the embassy of China in Singapore. Han highly affirmed WUT’s contribution to promoting Sino-Singaporean international cooperation in education and expected WUT to strengthen talks and exchanges with colleges and universities in Singapore, based on WUT’s advantages and characteristics to continuously contribute to cultural exchange between two sides. In Sydney, Secretary Xin Sijin met with Wang Chunshen, the Acting Consulate-General and Lin Xiaoqing, the Minister-Counselor of Consulate-General of PRC in Sydney and held deep and specific talks in promoting Sino-Australian cooperation in education and the recruitment program of high-end talents studying in Australia.

Besides, during the visit, Secretary Xin Sijin visited students in the WUT "Dongfeng Leap Class" Singapore short-term exchange program, as well as doctors, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers under joint cultivation with Singapore. Secretary Xin Sijin extended sincere greetings and concerns to these talents and motivates them to set lifelong ideals and hold concrete loyalty to the motherland. They were encouraged to work harder and harder and strengthen practical skills and scientific research abilities, enhance intercultural communicative competence and international views and hopefully return to their alma mater as soon as possible.
Secretary Xin Sijin attended activities at an invitation of Singaporean alumni and expressed gratitude to alumni of WUT in Singapore for their full support to construction of alma mater all the time. All the alumni were encouraged to work together at a more advanced level to contribute to the development of alumni and WUT’s level-up of global reputation and construction of the PRC and Chinese nation. Besides, Secretary Xin Sijin met with excellent Chinese professors and local representative alumni in Melbourne and Sydney to bond with them and talk about future plans.
The visit to Singapore and Australia aims to implement relevant consensus initiated by national leaders about Sino-Singaporean and Sino-Australian cooperation and deepen such cooperation in education and technology in response to requirement asserted by Ministry of Education PRC. It strictly follows the requirements of The 14th Five-Year Plan of WUT and Long-term Development Planning of WUT and Major Work Arrangements for 2024 formulated by the leadership group for WUT’s educational opening-up. It’s very meaningful to our comprehensive and all-round cooperation and communication with relevant colleges/universities and research institutes.
