WUT launched the “Summer Excellence Academy”, opening a new chapter in talent cultivation

To further advance the “5·30” plan and deepen educational and teaching reforms, on July 2nd, WUT launched the Summer Excellence Academy for 2024, targeting new-quality productive forces and cultivating outstanding digital intelligence talents.

At the launch ceremony, Wu Bo, Deputy Director of the Higher Education Division of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education, delivered a speech. He highly commended WUT’s achievements in promoting educational innovation and cultivating outstanding talents, and expressed high hopes for the implementation of WUT's Summer Vacation Academy. He pointed out that the launch of the academy was a vivid practice of Wuhan University of Technology in deepening educational and teaching reforms, and a good exploration of comprehensive higher education reform in Hubei Province.


Vice President Zhang Di reviewed the university’s century-long history of education in his speech. He emphasized that the Summer Vacation Academy was a value-added platform for the university to integrate theory and practice, cultivate students’ practical and innovative abilities, and carry out external exchanges and cooperation. It was a comprehensive learning space meticulously created by the university to integrate high-quality educational resources, encompassing knowledge imparting, practical training, and international exchanges, aiming to enhance students’ international literacy, global competence, and practical innovation capabilities.

It is reported that the Summer Vacation Academy is an important part of the university’s “talent cultivation system for digital intelligence facing new-quality productive forces” and is divided into three major sections: international literacy enhancement, practical innovation capability enhancement, and artistic and sports literacy enhancement. The international literacy enhancement mainly includes international study micro-courses, international general education micro-courses, international academic reports or lectures, international exchanges, and language proficiency training. The practical innovation capability enhancement mainly covers school-enterprise integrated micro-courses, discipline frontier lectures, industry-education integrated research and training, discipline competition training, innovation and entrepreneurship training, social practice, and vocational skill enhancement. The activities span diverse fields such as natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities and arts, fully satisfying students’ varied and individualized learning needs, aiming to broaden students’ international perspectives, enhance their international literacy, global competence, and practical innovation capabilities, and improve their overall quality.

The ceremony also included the appointment of foreign and industry experts. To ensure the high-quality implementation of the Summer Vacation Academy, the university has assembled an outstanding teaching team, including over 130 renowned overseas experts and 70 leading industry mentors from domestic companies. These experts would provide students with the most cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills guidance based on their profound academic knowledge and rich practical experience.

The university has established a special task force coordinated by multiple departments, meticulously planning and meticulously arranging every aspect from teaching management, student services to resource allocation and condition guarantees to ensure the smooth progress of all activities.

Zhang Di presented the flag to the 2024 summer social practice team, officially kicking off the academy’s social practice activities.

In the special report session, Professor Shen Zexiang from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Wang Weimin, Chief Engineer of Research and Development at Dongfeng Motor Corporation Group, delivered insightful reports, leading the students on an enlightening academic journey.
