On the morning of October 25, the “BYD” 21st WUT Sports Meeting was held at the South Lake Stadium.

WUT leaders, heads of relevant departments and academies, all judges, athletes, and representatives of faculty and students, gathered here for the opening ceremony. Xin Sijin, Secretary of the CPC WUT Committee, delivered an opening speech. Mai Liqiang, vice president of WUT, presided over the whole ceremony.

Along with the resounding and powerful melody of March of the athletes, all the teams paraded through the podium in order, from the national flag guard, the school flag guard, the school badge guard, the university motto guard, the cheering squad with flowers, the ceremonial team with red flags to various participating teams from university-affiliated units.

After all the 49 teams were settled in lines, the national flag was raised and the national anthem played. Everyone in the venue stood solemnly and sang in unison, immersing in an atmosphere of great reverence.

In the opening speech, Xin Sijin extended his great congratulations on the successful opening of the 21st WUT sports meeting and his heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers who carefully prepared for the event. He showed that, all along, WUT insisted on the principle of “Integrating Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Aesthetic and Labor Education and placing top priority on students’ health”. With its guidance, WUT had launched a variety of mass sports activities, which include “WUT healthy running” “WUT Cup” “The 15th Cross-Strait University Students' Sports and Cultural Exchange and Basketball Tournament” and so on. More than 20 golden medals had been achieved during national competitions. Besides, WUT also developed intelligent sports platforms, generated four in one (quaternity) typical application scenarios, and formed a comprehension evaluative model for student sports, which efficiently promotes digital empowerment of sports education. This year’s sports meeting, Xin pointed out, acting as a vivid practice of WUT’s education principle, provided faculty and students a stage for expressing their mental outlook and high fighting spirit. Also, he hoped that all athletes would carry forward the Olympic spirit, challenge their limits, surpass themselves with full enthusiasm and high morale, and compete with style, level, and friendship.

The student-athlete representative, Yin Sihan, the faculty-athlete representative, Li Wei, and the judge representative, Huang Jingxian, took their oaths in turn.

Accompanied by the music "I Love You, China", the martial art show and mass tai-chi performance began. Thousands of students were in perfect unison, and their movements were executed in one smooth go, making the show full of strength and grand.

It is reported that the sports meet would last three days, from October 24th to October 26th. Plus, a student-competing group and a faculty-competing group would be held.
