The 2024 China-UK Clean Energy Forum was successfully held on December 10 in Manchester, UK. The forum aimed to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during their meeting in Brazil, with a focus on promoting clean energy as a key area of cooperation between the two nations. The event attracted around 120 attendees, including Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, Zhu Kucheng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Wuhan Municipal People’s Congress, Tang Rui, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Manchester, as well as experts, scholars, and representatives from leading enterprises, universities, and industry associations from both countries. Wang Fazhou, Vice President of WUT, attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Wang emphasized the pressing global challenges posed by climate change, environmental degradation, and energy resource constraints. He emphasized China’s active engagement in global energy governance and its commitment to advancing the high-quality development of renewable energy, contributing significantly to the creation of a clean and sustainable world. Wuhan University of Technology, by keeping pace with the cutting edge of academic development, has been a pioneer in the field of clean energy, making remarkable achievements in the industrial-academic-research integration, particularly in the hydrogen energy sector. Wang also made an appeal for greater international cooperation in education, technology, and industry between China and the UK in related fields, to further contribute to the development of clean energy cooperation between the two countries.
In April 2022, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of China-UK ambassadorial diplomatic relations, the first China-UK Hydrogen Energy Cooperation Forum was held in Wuhan, hosted by WUT. This year, the forum was upgraded from the China-UK Hydrogen Energy Cooperation Forum to the China-UK Clean Energy Forum. The forum featured four sub-forums: China-UK Clean Energy Policy Exchange and Cooperation Path, Clean Energy Cutting-edge Project Technology Development and Innovation Practices, Green Finance and Clean Energy Investment Prospects, and Clean Energy Business Cooperation Opportunities and Project Sharing. Representatives from both Chinese and UK enterprises and universities were deeply involved in the discussions, analyzing industry development trends, discussing frontier technological advancements, and exploring new business cooperation opportunities.
During the forum, Wuhan and Manchester signed the 2025 Cooperation Action Plan to further strengthen their partnership.
