Delegation of Brunel University of London visited WUT

On June 24, a delegation from Brunel University of London, led by Vice-Chancellor Trevor Hoey, visited WUT. Wang Fazhou, Vice President of WUT, met with the delegation and chaired the discussion.

Wang Fazhou extended a warm welcome to Trevor Hoey on his revisit and expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Brunel University of London during his delegation’s visit to the UK in December 2024. He reviewed the history of collaboration between the two universities and provided an overview of WUT’s development and the progress of its internationalization strategy. He noted that during the visit to the UK in 2024, Brunel Universityof London’s advanced laboratories and innovative initiatives left a deep impression, and he looked forward to further exchanges and mutual learning between the two institutions in related fields. He emphasized that both sides should focus on core collaborative areas such as mechanical engineeringand civil engineering. Onthe one hand, both sides should deepen practical exchanges in materials, automotive, and mechanical engineering; on the other hand, both sides should fully explore the vast potential for cooperation in cross-border education, joint research projects, and high-level faculty and student exchanges. He stated that WUT is willing to take Trevor Hoey’s visit as an opportunity to elevate bilateral cooperation to new heights by jointly initiating an alliance of technical universities and applying for the establishment of a Sino-UK cooperative education institution.

Trevor Hoey expressed his appreciation for the warm reception of WUT and noted that the partnership between the two universities has a long history and a solid foundation. Since 2023, frequent mutual visits have yielded satisfactory phased achievements in fields such as materials, shipbuilding, and new energy. He suggested that the two universities could use the joint application for a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution as a starting point to gradually achieve course sharing and credit recognition, thereby deepening collaboration. Trevor Hoey also actively supported Wang Fazhou’s proposal to jointly establish an alliance of technical universities, expressing BrunelUniversity of London’s willingness to work with WUT to advance the alliance’s development. He stressed that BrunelUniversity of Londonwas committed to further strengthening exchanges with WUT by exploring innovative cooperation models such as joint education programs, continuously expanding collaborative fields, enriching cooperation content, and enhancing the depth and breadth of the partnership.

Representatives from the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Energy Power Engineering, the School of Automotive Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the School of Excellence in Engineering Education, and the International Office attended the meeting. They engaged in in-depth discussions with BrunelUniversity of Londons delegation on topics such as student exchanges, summer programs, and collaborative research.
