On the morning of September 13th, Wuhan University of Technology(WUT) held the 2025 opening ceremony at Nanhu Stadium. Over 17,000 new students from across the country gathered here to embark on a new journey with great enthusiasm.

All university leaders, the President’s assistant, and Jiang Desheng, a university strategic scientist and CAE academician, attended the ceremony. Also present were heads of functional departments, school directors, officials for undergraduate and postgraduate affairs, representatives of postgraduate supervisors, counselors for the Class of 2025, and all first-year undergraduates and postgraduates. Vice President Zhang Di presided over the ceremony.

Energetic singing and dancing performances enlivened the event. Their vitality and passion inspired everyone. As the national anthem played, the opening ceremony officially began.

President Wang Fazhou delivered the First Lesson titled “Breaking Cognitive Boundaries, Creating Infinite Possibilities”. He guided the first-years through the qualities of excellence forged throughout the university’s long history from various perspectives, including adhering to the university’s mission, shouldering responsibilities, and being willing to lead the way.

Meng Fangbing, secretary of the university’s CPC committee, presented the university badge to freshmen representatives.

As the representative of the faculty, Jiang Desheng, honored as one of the “Most Beautiful Teachers” of 2025 in China, academician of CAE, and strategic scientist of WUT, delivered a speech centered on pursuing dreams and thriving at WUT. He shared his over five decades of experience in scientific research and teaching, encouraging students to set ambitious goals, take concrete actions, persevere with courage, and integrate personal ideals into the grand journey of national development.

Xu Zhikang, a postgraduate from Class 231 of the School of Automotive Engineering and champion of the first Baja SAE China, shared his experience of leading his team to develop the world’s first hydrogen-powered Baja racing car from scratch. He called on his fellow students to challenge themselves, value teamwork, and make contributions in this great era.

Wen Shuo, an undergraduate freshman from Experimental Class 2501 of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, shared her observations and feelings since enrollment. She illustrated through her speech the university’s efforts and achievements in student-oriented educational approach, smart digital transformation, strength in serving the nation, and the passing down of faculty dedication spirit to the country.

Guo Luxuan, a first-year postgraduate from Class 2501 of the School of Foreign Languages and a member of the 26th Postgraduate Volunteer Teaching Group, shared her growth motto of “posing real questions and seeking true answers”, which was formed during her teaching experience in Xinjiang. She called on her peers to immerse themselves in academia, respond to the times with innovation and responsibility, and advance steadfastly on the path of rigorous and truthful scholarship.

As the university anthem “Song of Excellence” resonated across the venue, the opening ceremony came to a close, marking a perfect start to the students’ new journey.
