Recently, the National Press and Publication Administration announced the winners of the sixth China Publication Government Award. Liu Yongjian, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as Founder and Chairman of Shuchuan Group, received the Outstanding Publisher Prize.

For many years, Professor Liu Yongjian has devoted himself to the field of publishing integration. By leveraging technological innovation and industrial application as key drivers, he has made numerous groundbreaking contributions to advancing the national cultural digitalization strategy and promoting the development of new quality productive forces in the publishing industry.
He led his team in developing BOOKSGPT, the publishing industry’s first vertical large model, achieving independent breakthroughs in key AI technologies for the publishing sector. In 2025, it passed both algorithm and service filings with the Cyberspace Administration of China, laying a foundation for compliant and scaled industry adoption. The team built an end-to-end intelligent technology system covering topic planning, content creation, editing and proofreading, distribution, and marketing. This system has served more than 400 publishers and over 90,000 editors nationwide, significantly enhancing publishing efficiency and operational synergy. Furthermore, he pioneered a new knowledge service model of “AI + printed books”, driving the transformation of traditional books into smart, interactive formats, expanding the boundaries of knowledge services, and facilitating equitable access to high-quality content. In addition, through industry-academia-research collaboration, Liu Yongjian’s team established multiple national-level research platforms and undertook several major national projects, building full-chain innovation capabilities from basic research to application demonstration, thereby providing strong support for the intelligent transformation of the publishing industry.
The China Publication Government Award, organized by the National Press and Publication Administration, is the highest honor in China’s press and publishing field. It is also the only major national award in this sector assessed by the government rather than industry bodies. The award is presented every three years to recognize outstanding domestic publications as well as exemplary organizations and individuals who have made remarkable achievements in the publishing industry.
