On July 8, the recipients of the 2025 International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China were officially announced. A total of nine foreign experts received this prestigious honor. This national-level award has been established specifically to recognize foreign scientists’ outstanding contributions to China’s scientific and technological development. Among the awardees are Professor Su Baolian from Belgium and Professor Carlos Guedes Soares from Portugal, both strategic scientists at WUT.

Professor Su Baolian is a member of the Académie Royale de Belgique. Through close collaboration with WUT, he established the research direction of bio-composite materials and has long been promoting high-level scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and Europe in the field of materials science. In 2019, he received the Chinese Government Friendship Award.

Professor Carlos Guedes Soares is a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and an international member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Building on his long-standing collaboration with WUT, he helped establish the Innovation Center for Green Intelligent Marine Equipment and Safety under the university’s School of Future Technology. In 2024, he received the Chinese Government Friendship Award.
